A brief history
Around A.D. 1170 the Italian mathematician Leonardo Fibonacci discovered a mathematic formula that revealed the fundamental characteristics of the universe. This mathematical equation is a simple sequence of numbers where each number in the sequence is the sum of the two numbers that precede it. The sequence goes: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, and so on.
When each number represents a square we get a nice spiral that creates the shape of the golden rectangle.
